Happy Freedom Friday 🐢 This American Red-bellied Turtle was found crossing the road when the rescuer noticed a fishing hook embedded in its mouth. Fortunately, our veterinary team was able to safely remove the hook, treat the wound, and provide supportive care. After 10 days of rehabilitation—including swim testing in one of our outdoor pools—the turtle was healthy and ready for release. This Red-bellied turtle was brought to us after swallowing a hook. The hook entered through the mouth and exited under the left eye. Fortunately, the eye was still intact with no obvious trauma. Under anesthesia, clinic staff easily clipped the hook to remove it. After 6 days in rehabilitation, this turtle was ready to return to the wild.
