Hearing mama can take time and that’s okay. Babies often practice sounds long before they use them with meaning. Keep modeling, keep responding, and trust the process 🤍 👉 Follow for evidence-based speech tips from a pediatric SLP #firstwords #speechdevelopment #pediatricslp

Try these strategies to teach your toddler new words so that they can communicate their wants and needs with you more easily! You are your child’s best model, so model the language they can use to learn new words through play! #slp #speechtherapy #pedsslp #earlyintervention #momtips #babydevelopment #playideasforbaby #playideasfortoddler #playideasforkids #parenttips #speechdelay #todddlertoys #toddlerlanguagedevelopment #speechpathologist

Therapy in action with a gestalt language processor (NLA stage 1-2) ❤️ Some strategies… - Follow the child’s lead during play, incorporate their interests and sensory preferences - Avoid questioning the child or prompting with “Say…” - Choose some language to model that the child could pick up as Stage 1 gestalts [e.g. “I got it!”] and later mitigate (mix and match with other words or gestalts) into Stage 2 [e.g. “Do you wanna got it?”] - Include language for a variety of communication functions

The best way to teach language to a toddler is a really engaging toy and modeling some very simple words or sounds. I like to model core words: “go,” “more,” “put on.” When kids talk, we add one: Kid says “go” ➜ I model “go more.” Kid says “put on” ➜ I model “put on more.” Comment TOY to grab my fav spinners and use in your sessions #SpeechTherapy #SLP #EarlyIntervention #LanguageDevelopment #AAC #CoreWords #ModelingLanguage #AddOneRule #SpeechStrategies #SLPsofinstagram #SLPlife #PlayBasedLearn

You did not cause your child’s speech delay. • Speech and language delays are multifactorial Genetics, neurodevelopment, hearing, temperament, and processing differences all play a role. • Loving, responsive parents do not “cause” delays A child can be deeply loved, talked to constantly, and still need extra support. • Blame slows progress When parents feel judged, they become anxious and hyper-vigilant. • Support changes outcomes Responsive interaction, play, modeling language, AAC when needed,

I still love me some core vocabulary, don't get me wrong! But, now I know that there's so much more to AAC than modeling adult-directed vocabulary. They can be the most useful, flexible, powerful words in the world- but if it's not what the child wants to say, it's not going to land as well as a classic "womp, womp, womp, womppppp" sounding like a cartoon character will. This is one of my favorite ways to encourage kids to engage with their system- by making it fun, interactive, and perso

Early communication builds the foundation for future communication! Here’s what our SLP has to share about the milestone shown above: From birth to about 3 months, babies are expected to startle at loud noises. They may even start to turn their heads towards the sound of their mother or caregiver’s voice, just like this little guy at 6 weeks old! Sometime between 3-6 months, babies will more purposefully start attending to voices and sounds and will even begin to seek out the source of the sound

More ways to modify this activity 💕⬇️ In this example I am using the activity for a speech-sound group of all ages, but I would also use the same craft for my language groups too. For a language group, I would skip the concept of the dice but I would still pass out the materials one by one. We can take turns describing our materials, talking about what they look like, feel like, and their purpose (ex: we use scissors to cut). For my students who are a little bit older I would refrain from pre-c
